FLDAS-Global
The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) Land Data Assimilation System Global model (FLDAS-Global, McNally et al. 2017) is run twice a month, producing monthly outputs at 0.1° spatial resolution over a quasi-global domain (180°W to 180°E, 60°S to 90°N). FLDAS-Global uses the Noah (version 3.6) land surface model and HyMAP2 routing (over Africa) within the NASA Land Information System (LIS). FLDAS-Global preliminary runs, forced by the CHIRPS-Preliminary precipitation and GDAS non-precipitation meteorological datasets, are typically available by the 5th of the next month. FLDAS-Global final runs, forced by the CHIRPS-Final precipitation and MERRA-2 non-precipitation meteorological datasets, are typically available by the 20th of the next month. The spatial extent of CHIRPS precipitation inputs is 50°S to 50°N (Funk et al. 2015). For regions north and south of the CHIRPS domain, the FLDAS-Global preliminary and final runs use GDAS and MERRA-2 precipitation inputs, respectively. FLDAS-Global output is available for January 1982 to present from the NASA Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC). The most recent FLDAS-Global preliminary and final outputs are shown below. Anomalies are calculated relative to January 1, 1991-December 31, 2020 climatology. Outputs from GLDAS, NLDAS, and several observational datasets are also shown below for comparisons. Please refer to this document and the FLDAS Model Specification webpage for additional details on the FLDAS-Global system.
