NLDAS Vegetation Greenness Fraction

This page contains monthly vegetation greenness fraction data files for the NLDAS domain. The data has been re-gridded from NESDIS/NOAA 0.144-degree monthly climatology values from NCEP. The data is a composite of a 5-year (1985-1989) dataset using the AVHRR satellite. Details of the original dataset can be found in Gutman and Ignatov (1997). The twelve monthly greenness fraction fields are assumed to be valid at the 15th of each month. The values are in fractions (although currently illustrated as percentages below).

January greenness fractions over the 1/8th-degree NLDAS domain. Values of 0-10% occur over the northern 1/3rd of the domain. Values of 20-50% occur over southeastern regions, and values of 40-80% occur over western areas.

July greenness fractions over the 1/8th-degree NLDAS domain. Values of 60-100% occur over the eastern half and extreme western portions of the domain. Values of 0-50% occur over the remainder of the domain.
