LDAS Meeting Minutes
July 25, Tuesday, NWS/Office of Hydrology
- Next LDAS
meeting is scheduled on September 15, starting at 1:00pm in NCEP.
- Radihka: Princeton Update: Justin Shefield is the new LDAS
coordinator in Princeton
A new Alpha computer is
installed.
Brian: A new land/water mask was created which
treats any pixel with a fraction of land as a land pixel. Many coastal pixels become land pixels
from
water pixels.
Action Item: Brian will get the new topography data
for the new mask
All: Continuing discussion on how to fix the
precipitation gradient in Canada.
A weighting map for the impacted Candadian region is needed to blend CPC
daily observed precipitation forcing with the EDAS precipitation
forcing.
Action Item: Yun will develop a land mask file which
identify US land as 1, Canada land as 2, other land as 3 and water as 0.
Ken: Ken explained the document he wrote on
the requirement on common LDAS outputs (Version III). The comments would be incorporated by
Ken.
Dag: Dag obtained the list of real-time
streamflow stations. Will
identify basins which have only natural flows and have enough raingage
density for LDAS testing.
John: John presented precipitation analysis
which incorporates PRISM climatology. Wayne agreed to produce precipitation forcing for LDAS at
1/8 degree resolution (instead of current 1/4 degree) using the new
precipitation analysis method.
Update:
NCEP - Curtis Marshall was to leave
NCEP to
pursue his Ph.D. in Colorado State U.
OH - SAC-SMA coding for LDAS is close
to being completed.
